A skilled digital photographer begins a twisted romance with a woman suffering from body dysmorphia.

Woman of the Photographs follows Kai, a solitary and highly skilled digital photographer who is afraid of women. His isolated life changes when he encounters Kyoko, a beautiful model suffering from body dysmorphia and consumed by the need to appear perfect in photographs. Their connection develops into a twisted romance, with Kai becoming determined to save Kyoko from her anguish even when doing so may cost him his life.

Directed and written by Takeshi Kushida, this Japanese mystery-thriller examines the increasingly unstable boundaries between physical identity, digitally manipulated images, self-perception, and intimacy. Through Kai and Kyoko’s relationship, the film considers how body image can become artificial and how relationships can grow more distant when appearance is filtered through cameras and screens. Its enigmatic narrative presents interconnected ideas about the self, images, and self-image while leaving viewers to assemble the larger picture.

Featured at leading international film festivals, Woman of the Photographs received forty festival awards and earned significant critical attention.
