Missing in Action stars Chuck Norris as Colonel James Braddock, a hardened Special Forces veteran who returns to Southeast Asia on a dangerous mission to rescue American servicemen secretly held prisoner in Vietnam. A fast-moving combination of war film, rescue thriller and 1980s action spectacle, the 1984 Cannon Films production helped establish one of Norris's signature screen characters and launched a three-film series.

Braddock knows firsthand what captivity means. Held for years in a brutal Vietnamese labor camp after the war, he eventually escaped and returned home. When he reluctantly joins an official fact-finding delegation traveling to Saigon to investigate reports of American MIAs, he is infuriated by the denials of General Tran (James Hong). Convinced that prisoners remain alive, Braddock abandons the diplomatic approach and begins his own investigation with assistance from State Department official Ann Fitzgerald (Lenore Kasdorf).

After locating an MIA prison camp, Braddock travels to Bangkok and reconnects with his old Army friend Tuck (M. Emmet Walsh), now working as a smuggler. Tuck supplies the weapons and transportation needed for an unauthorized rescue operation, sending Braddock back into Vietnam equipped like a one-man army. What follows is an escalating assault through enemy territory as Braddock attempts not merely to reach the prisoners, but to bring them home alive.

Released in 1984, Missing in Action arrived a year before Rambo: First Blood Part II explored similar POW-rescue territory and became a substantial box-office success, grossing more than $22 million and spawning two sequels. Norris's controlled, physical performance proved ideally suited to Braddock, while the supporting cast includes veteran character actor M. Emmet Walsh, Lenore Kasdorf and James Hong. The film was produced by Menahem Golan and Yoram Globus during the prolific era of Cannon Films.

Director Joseph Zito, whose credits include Friday the 13th: The Final Chapter and the later Norris vehicle Invasion U.S.A., emphasizes momentum, practical action and increasingly large-scale combat as Braddock's mission progresses. Written by James Bruner, who would subsequently work on Norris's The Delta Force, the film combines the era's fascination with unresolved Vietnam War POW stories with the direct, stripped-down action filmmaking that became a hallmark of Cannon's 1980s output.

This MVD Rewind Collection edition brings Missing in Action to 4K Ultra HD for the first time, utilizing a 2023 4K restoration from the original camera negative. The film is presented in its original 1.85:1 aspect ratio with Dolby Vision and HDR and English DTS-HD 2.0 mono audio. Archival supplements include a 2017 audio commentary with director Joseph Zito moderated by Michael Felsher of Red Shirt Pictures, a 2017 interview with screenwriter James Bruner, and the original theatrical trailer. The release also includes reversible artwork and a collectible 4K mini-poster.
